Incentives work for me, if i was on them at work id turn up on time, do my full 7 hours work without tossing it off on the net and leave on time

You can't directly compare sportsmen to employees in other walks of life. There are different incentives and job conditions. And winning bonuses are hardly going to be a popular option when winning doesn't just depend on your own performance - there are a whole host of variables beyond your control, starting with the rest of the squad up through the weather, injuries, and dodgy refereeing decisions.



I prefer the idea of a bonus paid for final table position and/or finals myself.

The players in question recieve the same regardless of league postion etc, one wage regardless.

We used to have a bonus for finals and playoffs IIRC. Caused us a cap problem one year.

Exactly. They are being paid to play Rugby.

More down to Plummers maths and interpretation of the rules that one though.

I understand SOME players do still have the mentioned incentives, however some certainly don't.

Not that it matters to the players

Isnt getting paid to play for FC incentive enough? You earn your wage for doing your job to the best of your ability. There's a stream of research around motivation that talks about people not being motivated by finances too etc



Personally in sport win bonuses should be there for me but in general i think people get overly bothered with needed incentives when actually their wage should be incentive enough to do a good job.

In that case the incentive should be not getting sacked.
