| Excellent interview as usual. I admit I was puzzled as to his decision but the difference between individual performance and a team performance is very important.

| It's a good excuse. But had it been the other way round Tomkins an organiser and Myler a broken field runner and backup merchant, he would still have picked Myler.

100% correct.
I don't know where he gets this from anyway, Tomkins ran the show against Wales and he turned Wigans season around.
However surely Sinfield and Mcguire should be organising the team, surely he is not picking a young very inexperienced player to direct the team around the field at international level. Its an excuse, McGuire will be organising, Myler will be doing what he is told, I am sure he will do well.

| How many games has Tomkins played at scrum-half this year? Surely if Wiigan fans have a gripe it should be with the selection of McGuire instead of Tomkins.

In the modern game there is no 6 or 7. The only difference is who puts the ball in the scrum. The halves will be split left and right most of the time.

Shame you can't get the link working..........what he actually says is "Because he wanted to see how many morons would respond on message boards with insignificant drivel!!"

Recent example was the loss of Wallace from the Broncos and Lockyer filling in at 7 was completely lost.
If they generally split left and right which of Myler and McGuire are which and which side does Tomkins play? Seem to remember tOmkins playing on Wigan's right when King ran his hat-trick through him whilst McGuire also lines up on teh right for Leeds.
So following your own logic it is McGuire and Tomkins competing for that right-side slot. Which leads to teh question why have you been on here moaning about Myler playing for the last few days?

| Quote Choosing between Myler and Tomkins was toughEngland coach Tony Smith: "Choosing between Myler and Tomkins was tough"
Richie Myler and Danny McGuire are England's half backs for the opening Gillette Four Nations match against France. Kyle Eastmond is on the bench but there's no place for Sam Tomkins. Not yet anyway. England coach Tony Smith talks sixes and sevens with Chris Irvine on the Blog.
"It was a tough call on Sam Tomkins. I can tell you it was real tough between Tomkins and Richard Myler [at scrum half.
We leaned towards Richard playing because maybe he's a little better at guiding the team around, as well as his individual stuff, whereas Sam's terrific with his individual play and he's still developing his ability to boss a team around.
"We needed somebody to steer this big ship around. But I haven't nailed my colours to Richard Myler's mast. It was a tough call and he needs to produce, otherwise Sam will got a nod at some stage. The same goes for Danny McGuire [at stand-off. Danny needs to play well, because I'd have no qualms about throwing in two boys [against Australia and/or New Zealand, if we felt that was necessary.
"We've actually got some competition at half back for a change. You can throw Kyle Eastmond [who starts on the interchange bench against France into the mix . I've have no qualms about throwing him in either, because I know he's going to take on the opposition. They all need to produce. If they do, they're fine. If they don't, we've got some options.
"I'd like this team to do well this year and I think it's got the ability to do that. But some of it is about getting ready for the future as well. We'll be exposing our young people to some very good teams, so they'll know what level they'll have to raise themselves to.
"Hopefully, they'll be strong and experienced enough to have a successful series this year. But no matter what, these boys will be better for the experience.
"Some of these young people would probably have been picked for the World Cup last year had they been fit and healthy. We feel we've enough experience on the squad to take care of some of these young blokes. If we were really young across the whole team, I'd be nervous about throwing some of these boys in, but with such an experienced pack, I feel quite comfortable.
"It's not like some of these young players haven't played in some big games. They're going to come up against some terrific players and they may learn some lessons, but we've got to cope with that. It will do them good for now and it will certainly prepare them well for the future, too.
"I'll be happy this series if the players can come off and say they've played well. If won well with a good performance, great. If we haven't won but they've put in the effort and the opposition have played better, that's what sport's about. If they try their hardest, that's all I can ask of them."
'"
He makes no mention of Myler coming to Warrington.
