I cant see Shenton staying all things considered about our club. He is an international and he has to make the move now to win trophies. ST Helens would be a dream move, he would be mad not to take the chance if they are in for him.

If Cas had made any progress in recent years it might of been a different story, but the club is in a sorry state sadly.

If we get a new ground and keep a franchise we should hold on to our home grown talent, but until those are achieved we have little to offer any player longterm.

Why?? He'd stand out at Castleford, and he's probably too good for Castleford IMO. He's excellent, i'd have him over Hodgson any day of the week as would alot of Wire fans.

I cant go along with your point of him being too good for us but i do agree that you would have been better off keeping him than paying out what ever sum it was to get hodgson. I think we saw the best of him last season and he hasnt really hit the headlines this year so if his decline continues you could well have bought a pup. but i would be more than happy with mathers and if rumours are to be believed he has signed a 2 year deal already but we will just have to wait and see if thats true.

He's an outstanding fullback IMO. His posistioning, work rate, enthusiasum, desire, kick return, catching. He'll mae the odd brain fart as does everyone but he's a terrific player.

On Mathers' form this year, I would take him every day of the week. Finally means we have a proper full-back for once too.

Any yet still better than any of your three quarter line.

Except Shenton and Owen.

I reckon thompson and arundel will be better players than mather too.



And for that matter i would rather have wainwright given the choice!

I wouldn't. I like Wainwright and he has the passion but he doesn't have the pace really.



Still, having Mathers in the backline would solve a lot of problems.
