I would say there is more than potential.
As I said surgery of the spine is almost the norm.
There was a famous story of Tazz getting a rather nasty head/neck injury and when asked by the PMT's if he wanted treatment he waved them away and went home.
He later went to A+E (or whatever the American term is) with complaint that his neck had started to feel worse.
After having numerous tests done it fell to the Doctors to tell him that not only had he broken his neck but that they had no idea how he was walking!!
He want back to wrestling as soon as he could.
You have to be very tough to even try it and have a fair bit of crazy to keep doing it.
