Still a few negatives though, our discipline and error rate simply has to improve, the amount of times we just gift teams position and territory is crazy and our play the ball speed has to improve (although our smallish pack won't help with this either). Overall a good win and a game we'd have 100% lost last year.

Away support was in fine fettle and buoyant.

Deux points is what it's all about and we managed to get over the line.

Hudds may of been the better team on the night, but we took our chances, must be one of only a few who thought Martins' try was a try, aslong as his finger is on the ball when it grounded, then its a try. Didn't think they were that dangerous on our line when they got close and we kept them out easily. Great take by Baron for the intercept, best pass Lolohlea (check spelling) did all match haha.

As for the officials, once again they gave our players no protection at all with headshots! be interesting if the review panel pick anything up? and not policing the 10 metre rule allowed them to get in our faces quite easily, think we should have gone out wide more than trying to take them on through the middle. 

2 from 3 and 14 points conceded against two opponents away from home shows vast improvement from last season, where we had conceded over 80 points in our first 3 games!

I'm not sure even Lewis Martin thought it was a try! his body language almost gave himself away, he didn't look too sure as he stood up. I was convinced the VR was going to chalk it off, but 'fingertip control' and all that!!

Agree about the headshots, how was it not a penalty for the one on Briscoe, and then their disallowed try (off the back of the non-Briscoe penalty) came about due to Sezer taking a crack around the back of his head as he was on the floor. Thought we were going to be awarded a penalty for that shot, but the VR only looked at Wilson's knock-on to disallow it, no mention of the crack on Sezer.

Well as so many have said already two from three is better than any of us could have hoped for in the light of last year and when the fixture list came out. One more win and we are level with our total wins all last season, so for me that's progress! There's more tenacity more will to win, more accountability for each other and more effort than we have seen for a couple of seasons at least. Co-ordination and fluency is a long way off and it's not pretty at all but it was never going to be, even had we had a full team fit and well but with the usual FC injury toll I'm quite happy as to where we are. 

We are rebuilding but still have a thin squad fattened out on the margins by young players with tons of potential but who lack experience size and the necessary resilience to perform every week. So when injuries strike shape goes out of the window and we fly on endeavour and if you like some youthful exuberance and a sheer will to get over the line by the final hooter. Now at least we have some old heads to sort us out on the field and Sizer last night never stopped shouting!!

The first half was a struggle Huddersfield competed high completion wise and were much bigger and stronger than us down the middle. We gave away the mandatory FC penalties and struggled to hold them but hold them we did. I'd have been disappointed as a Giants fan to not be further ahead. However, what Cartwright and Co said at half time (I'm told that Sizer gave them the rounds of the Dressing room too) certainly worked and it was our ability to hang in there under pressure and grab our chances that got us home. 

It shows that we have a long, long way to go but as is reflected on here for most of us it's a start. But for me personally the main point from last night's game was how good it was to experience an FC crowd getting some passion back and singing and chanting the boys home in that last quarter. The stand was rocking just like the old days. The fans are realists and get when the players are trying so instead of sitting watching the game unfold to its usual conclusion through their fingers, they were up on their feet willing the lads home. 

In a soul less place like that arena with a smattering of home fans failing to inspire their heroes the guys on that terracing were up on their feet making every tackle and catching every pass (well you know what I mean) and they inspired the players. Folks have said on here that once we were level we took control and once the drop goal went over players that had all night been punching well above their weight lifted themselves and backed by the fans found a second wind. For the seven minutes after the drop goal as the opposition got firstly frustrated and then desperate we kept the Huddersfield pack that had dominated for so long away from our 40 and out of drop goal range. 

Injuries are inherent in the very make up of Hull FC these days  and that hasn't changed much this season has it? There's so much to do and bags of improvement in this squad and the squads to be assembled in future years  but at least were having a go again and the fans appreciate that! Kevin Brown and the media can go on all they like about the best team losing, but that's what they did lose and in any sport in the end it's the W in the column that matters. Next week will be tough but for now!  Have a great weekend!
