| Quote TheDreadnought="TheDreadnought"It was you who stated you were only a kid. My opinion on Rugby at 15 and my opinion now are two different things. (queue a joke about my age from Willzay or Lil "Widnes" Wayne) and technically I have seen him play but only through a monitor/TV like most on here.
I just don't like the big fuss for some fella who played 10 games for us 35 years ago and helped us get relegated but lets not forget, it was in front of 18,000.
Where did I say that anyone else was better than him? I've noted that he was the best player in the world at the time. However IMO we have had halfbacks since then who have done much more the club...'"
I'm ok with you not getting it. Leave those of us who want to, to make a big fuss.
I can't think of any other player in the history of Wakefield Trinity, with the exception of maybe Neil Fox, who would fill the big room at Cedar Court.

| I went to the game v hull FC we competed with them first half but fell away in the second half when sterling got the hull team firing on all cylinders they were a far better side on paper anyway wally tried his best but really didn't have much quality to play with in that Wakefield side that was struggling after the wholesale sell off of the 79 Wembley team ,still he was great to watch never seen a player with so much time on the ball definitely the best player I've seen in a Wakefield shirt followed by w ashust and D topliss never saw N fox and the great players of the 1960s.

I'm always genuine.
I was thinking of PMing but I think it's worth understanding as others have commented too.
I'm not sure whether it's getting a superstar in for 10 games only
Or the fact that people still talk about Lewis with such reverence
Or that he's coming back and people are going to see him.
None of those things impact anyone else so can't see why you are so bothered by it. I actually want to know.

Just the fact that people still talk about him and want to make a big deal of someone who did so little for us, I don't have a problem with anyone showing him respect. He deserves respect, he was the best player in the world at the time.
Maybe I'll feel the same in 35 years if we do something similar with Tim Smith?

| Quote TheDreadnought="TheDreadnought"No I don’t, many on here are simply selective of what they read when I post.
I understand he was the best player in the world at the time, with the signing Trinity will will have well been under the spotlight and the attendances improved. I didn’t know until yesterday that his wages were paid by a businessman so I’m presuming Trinity will have seen the full benefit of higher attendances.
But why do we still have him coming over 35 years later with his name in lights now? We have players who have done just as much if not more who won’t even get a mention.
IMO he might of been the best player at the time but there was certainly no major success on the field that came from the signing.'"
I recently had the honour of playing against Paul Gallen, a chance I won’t get again, he never played for Wakey but in my eyes was a one of the greats of the game and many came to his speaking appearances. What people I think are trying to say is That Wally not only was also a great of the game but also played for Wakey and was a huge attraction at the time and wether he played for us or not, RL fans would turn out to listen to what he has to say like they would with any RL legend . I don’t know what age bracket you are in dreadnought, but if you had watched him in the flesh I’m sure your opinion would change.

I won’t disclose my age lad but fair comment, maybe it’d be different.
