| I agree with Fred kids get plenty of free time and making our streets even slippier in this bad weather won,t make them any smarter.
In 1963 I never missed a day at school, apart from holidays and weekends, and this current cold spell does not come close.

| Well done to Westleigh HS.
When my two were at Bedford they often had to do homework/revision by logging onto the schools database, those who didn't have internet access at home had to do it at school after normal hours. I'm sure Bedford aren't the only school to do this, therefore the school will probably already know who can (likely to be most) and who can't work from home, without causing them embarrassment, and ok those who have to use the schools computer wont be able to, unless of course they put as much effort in going round to a relatives or friends with the internet as they do going to Green hill.
Nothing wrong with the holiday idea, except some will have booked holidays.

Strange how they try to drum it into their own kids now.'"
some parents think that educating their children is just the job of teachers

| For gawds sake, the kids are not going to turn into hopeless drop outs just cos they got an extra week off school.

| It's not cheeky. They still should really be at school, these days off aren't holidays. Those who want to do the work will, the ones who don't won't. The one's who don't have internet, well that's unlucky but they'll have to catch up.
If it was the summer holidays then you'd have a point, but I don't see the problem with it.

| Interesting that a parent should think it a cheek that a teacher going the extra mile to keep the education system ticking over is out of order.
It would be easy to conclude that you have a low opinion of the value of education.
