| Not sure, but my guess is that it would be quite low. Did not notice the ref, which is how it should be

| DParky will know, but I thought, for every penalty Wakefield conceded we conceded two. It wasn,t a stop start affair though like most of our games

| That is interesting. I have heard that Leigh have a supposed reputation for ill discipline. However, from what I can gather, when they have played the very weak sides eg. London Skolars and Lokomotiv Moscow, Leigh have done well in the penalty count. In addition, I may be wrong, but it would seem that when they have faced Super League opposition, (Salford, Wigan and Wakefield) the team has not been on the wrong end of huge penalty counts either. I must admit, that I posed the question as to what the penalty count was on Friday, very much expecting it to be pretty even and I thought it would be before a ball was even kicked. It might just be me, but don't you Leigh fans think there seems to be a definite pattern emerging against you in terms of penalty counts ie. if you are playing a team from within your own league, all of a sudden, low and behold, Leigh become the most ill disciplined team ever. I may be being too cynical on your behalf, but that just seems highly unlikely to me. Instead of giving your team constant criticism for a so called lack of discipline, look at the pattern. Surely, most of you realise that every team that Leigh play in this league are not miles better disciplined than you. Do you really think that Doncaster, for example, were only guilty of transgressing against you three times in an entire match. As Mark Aston stated, in the aftermath of the recent narrow defeat at Widnes for Sheffield, he cannot accept that Widnes were squeaky clean during that match and his players were the only guilty ones. Rugby does not work like that. Most teams employ exactly the same tactics in slowing the opposition down and so if you find yourselves constantly on the wrong end of huge penalty counts, I suggest that you are being very badly done to. You have proved yet again on Friday, that there is very little wrong with your discipline. I would like to bet however, that you will be well down on the penalty count in your next league match and will possibly have men off or in the bin again. Don't you think this is a little suspicious? I certainly do. I have seen you play and you are no different to any other team in this league in terms of discipline. Do not fall for the bull.

My gripe has always been the penalties the opposition doesn't concede, rather than the ones we do. We have a tendency to go high in the tackle, but are no worse than any other team (in my opinion) for offside, holding down etc. Still, it's fascinating that refs, who have caned us away, have been good to us at home - so far!!

| We tend to go high after we have been slaughtered for posession and are knackered, guess what most teams do.
We do not have a discipline problem, we do have a referee problem though, RFL instigated?? (conspiricy theorists please follow)

| I bet a good deal of your penalties are not even for going high. Doubtlessly, many of them will be for offside, not square, ball stealing etc. Unfortunately, modern rugby and its different rulings give referees far too much power in influencing a game. A lot of the matches in Championship 1 are very evenly contested and if a referee decides to absolutely cane you on the day for offences such as offside and not square and largely ignore offences from your opponents , you have very little chance of winning. No team in the Championship, imo, is good enough to play the ref and constantly triumph despite consistently huge penalty accounts against them. On your day,you will be capable of beating any team in the league, but if you are constantly on the wrong end of huge penalty counts, you will struggle. IMO,this is just not fair. A referee in rugby union or league can more or less give a penalty whenever they feel like it. If he is pedantic enough and constantly applying the letter of the law, the game will consist of an unending stream of penalties. At the moment, from the penalty counts I am reading in League Express, your team is struggling a lot more than most. The Featherstone and Doncaster match totals almost beggared belief. Is any team consistently that stupid? No they are not. Were Featherstone, Sheffield, Doncaster really that saintly or if a referee really had wanted to, could he have justifiably penalised these teams out of the game. I tend to think he could.
