I think that Tony Smith has picked Myler over Tomkins because;
1) Good experience for a player that may be a regular in the England team for a number of years.
2) No real risk as I could play in the halves and England would still win.
3) Tomkins has a habit of being wound up too easily and could end up costing his team dear (King in CC SF) and the French are masters at niggling certain types of players.

If the plays tomkins against aus and NZ its only a matter of time before he gets his head ripped off, he will go into the game thinking he is better than everyone else playing and will get put in his place, hes a good player dont get me wrong, but he wont have a impact on the game like he has done for wigan all year

So, unlike the superior o current form Tompkins then.
2) No real risk as I could play in the halves and England would still win.
Or to put it another way..so he can give his new club signing an international outing and hopefully help him regain his confidence/form at the expense of building a team and giving it the best possible chance to do well in this tournament with little risk of losing. Nice one TS.

Unlike, say Edwards or Gregory for example?
