Wasn't it in 2006?....
FWIW I think both Briers and Tomkins should have got a 1-match ban for that. It's unsportsman-like and negative to the game.
I don't think Tomkins should be Man of Steel as, regardless of his undeniable talent, he still insists on letting niggly, cheating play be a part of his game. You don't see other young talents like Charnley doing that, yet he's not raved about anywhere near as much. Charnley is proof that you can be a cracking young player and not be a complete w**ker on the field.

With Sam's antics not being acceptable for Man of Steel in a Family Game how about Pat Richards, model professional, he does everything right on the field, scores tries, kicks goals, presents himself the right way, seems a logical choice to me and one that the fans would be happy with unlike Sam.

Wigan's strongest team without sam would probably still be top, Saints without Roby wouldn't be 3rd, that's why it's Roby for me. Wigan have had afew injuries but not all at once, Roby has been carrying practically Saints under 20's squad playing in SL
