I think the problem is that while he was quick, he was never lightning fast in the way that wingers in the top bracket were such as Dallas, Albert, Donald, Sullivan. That was fine but as he has bulked up he has lost the speed that a winger needs to take the outside on occasions and beat a man and he simply can't do that anymore. He knows himself and never even takes the outside unless he is very close to the line.



In Meli's case he can just barge his way over over and frequently does. You can afford to have one winger like that so Ade will be the one way to make way I feel in the near future as he has no B game if you like. Still very safe compared to some though and a real grafter. I mean Penny is greased lightning but you can't cover him up in defence, he's a liability!



Ryan Hall seems a freak of nature as he is rapid and and a stocky lad as well.

Hall is like the lads the Aussies produce - Inglis, Hunt etc. in that he's a big chap and very very quick.

I love Meli. He really is an excitement machine and he may well be the best finisher in the league. He's certainly the best finisher we've had since Talau.

Got to say Ade did have a great season a couple of years back when he still had pace, and he was busting through tackles left right and centre.

Just doesnt look good enough anymore.

Meli was awesome and Gardner's got more to give. I agree that he could do with slimming down, a bit like Scully said of himself when he made one of his comebacks so the importance of balance is clearly recognised at Saints. But why have so many of our players started to look too big up top?

Can anyone remember when Gardner last scored anywhere near the sticks or came inside when there's a break on and scored a try similar to the one Meli scored against Hudds at Warrington the other week. He seems stuck in the tracks on the outside apart from when he wanders in from the defensive line which often proves costly. I do agree he has improved under the high ball but a bit of coaching re positional freedom may not go amiss.

enjoyed watching Meli probably one of about only 3 that i would have paid.

When he's not making brainfarts, Meli is a good player. When he makes those cock-ups though...



Ade's been shocking all season for me though. What little pace he had has gone now. I think Gidley could probably beat him in a foot race.
