Les Cats in a close competitive game which helped to develop our young players. St Helens last season were able to do that because they put in so much effort the rest of the season.
As for scrapping the cup, it seems daft to get rid of it because Super league clubs keep doing well, isn't that why they are in the top flight of RL in Europe(with Les Cats)? The FA cup in football is dominated by Premiership Clubs with the odd lower league clubs getting to the latter stages and no-one is calling for that to be scrapped
As already mentioned, without the cup RL would only be live on Sky and have an hour on a sunday on BBC which would only stop RL from being seen by more people and hinder the development at all levels or could end up killing the sport slowly because of less new fans seeing and becoming interested in the sport. The more fans we attract, which the cup can do better than Sky because not everyone has access to sky but will have BBC is they have a TV, the more money and players coming into the game improving this great game even futher |

Do you think that would make much difference though? I would have thought those not willing to pay £12 to watch a mis-match would feel the same about paying £8, for example. If it's included in your season ticket, what happens if there isn't a home game?
I'm not saying the ideas aren't worthy of discussion, just pointing out some of the counter arguments. |

We used to have in the 70s/80s the Floodlit trophy,John Player cup, Yorkshire/Lancs cup, League title, Challenge cup , and Premiership.
Now there are TWO comps for gods sake. A knockout one is the only chance a mid to lower table team has of reaching a final.

super league teams should come into the competition in round 5 not round 4. This would give 12 super league and 4 national league or when super league goes to 14 teams 14 and 2 national league teams.

I appreciate scrapping the competition is a non-runner. National TV exposure etc. I would scrap it if it were my choice.
However games like last nights' at Leeds and Saints do the reputation of the competition no good. RL isn't like football weak sides simply cannot stop the opposition from scoring - there is a big difference between the size of the goal in soccer and the try line in RL. The gap between the SL sides and the rest is now so big these games are no longer competitive.
Judging by the crowds last night the paying public have also lost the appetite for these one-sided non-contests. The junior clubs no longer get the pay day they once did.
Castleford did show that the top sides in NL1 can be competitive and I do realise the romance of the cup for the the sides outside of SL.
I suggest the following:
The SL clubs enter the compeition at the last 16 stage - this will leave 4 place availble for the top sides in NL1 such as Castleford. The competition should then be able to provide TV with 2 good games per round.'"
how about the SL sides can only score against NL2 opposition upto 10 meters either side of the posts or under them(thus reducing the width of the tryline) and are not allowed to convert a try.
and against NL 1 opposition are not allowed to score in the 10 meter area from the touchline in(on each side of the pitch) thus reducing the width of the tryline by 20meters in total conversions are allowed |
