Good move by Leeds. I think McDermott didn't get the full credit for the work he did under Smith. The last couple of years we have looked undercooked at the start of the season and not a lot of evidence of game plan, discipline, wrestle techniques from the coaching staff. So I think we will sharpen up.

Cummins re-joining forces with Tony Smith again would not surprise me. They appeared to have a good working relationship before.

I thought everybody hated smith when he was at Leeds?

Personally I thought he got too much credit. He certainly got far more than the likes of Poching and Cummins have done as assistants.



I guess the proof will be in the pudding when he takes over.

Superb appointment indeed!



Brian McDermott has done very well at a club with limited resources.



He took over the club mid-season in 2006 and they've made steady progression during his tenure.



2005 - 6th (play-off spot)

Worrying indeed Keith and a cause for my concern about this appointment.

I still wouldn't get too over exited about Brian Mac getting the top chair just yet. A lot can happen in 12 months. I won't be convinced till there's a photo on the back page of the evening post with Mac and the sleeve shaking hands in front of the south stand.

We all know that wont happen... all handshakes take place in the North Stand these days with the Carnegie as a backdrop





Anyway I still think it may be a good appointment. He has had very little in the way of resources down there and year on year he has had a significantly weaker squad to work with.

And it shows. He took over after round 19 in 2006 with Harlequins in 9th.



Harlequins finished that season 7th and since then have gone 9th, 9th, 11th.



This season what do you reckon 12th or 13th?



If this is to be Leeds' next first grade coach I can only presume it's going to be another Hetherington master-stroke.

After next season I presume that work will begin on the stadium re-development. In that case I would suspect funds to be tight on the playing front. Maybe they want McDermott because of the track record he's shown working within a budget and with young English players?
