As for stats - they're important to an extent. But maybe Fozzard is told to keep it simple by Morgan and not to offload as they have other forwards for the fancy stuff. He's not, by a long shot, one of the best props in super league but he'll take a load of the work off others and doesn't shirk hitting it up from his own goal line. Certainly don't think he's as good as Kylie, JP or Ali but i doubt Saints management think so either...he'll do a job, no matter how simple it is. Might open up Graham to do some of the other work he's quite good at in attack.

I think there might be another reasonable season left in Fozzard. Given the SC constraints, I don't think you can look at his signing in isolation - it could be a good one providing saints splash the cash on additional players. However, if they don't and Fozzard represents their major acquisition then I think the omens are very different.

It's the later unfortunately. But it's just a stop gap until Luke Bailey arrives.

It could be said we are dominant in the main competition given that we have won it back to back and have appeared in the GF in 4 of the last 5 years, and in a position to get there/win it this year, therefore been dominant in the league throughout the season to be in a position to challenge for the Major Honour. I will take that sort of under achieving. But you are correct in the fact we are not dominant in a competetion where 4 wins or so lifts a trophy. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see us win the CC at Wembley, but i bet most Saints fans would swap there dominance in that comp for SL titles. Now stop distracting me, Fozzard is not a signing a top club should be making no matter how cheap/what cap constraints/how much he will aid the ginger one etc.

Metres alone isn't a good indication, as a player could take the ball up hundreds of times to make the metres but they might not be effective metres.



Carries alone isn't a good indication. If a player is running the ball in hundreds of times but not making enough metres forward the team would be better served giving the ball to someone else.



Metres per carry is a combination of the two.



Now, James Graham will lose out slightly in the metres per carry stat, simply because he is called on to do so much work. St Helens will be fully aware of this, and they will accept this because of his value to the team. But you don't just deride the MPC stat because it works out badly for Graham.



Stats are good. They give good indications of how players perform. But you need to look at ALL the stats together.

Absolutely no doubt at all that 3 back to back SLs would make Leeds a great team.



It's hard to explain the lack of CC success, really is a strange one.
